Football Talks (Why Jalen Hurts Resume Outperforms His Play.)

"Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts was among the “Super Bowl Legends” introduced before Super Bowl LX between the New England Patriots and Seattle Seahawks. Hurts, Tom Brady, Joe Montana, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, Steve Young, Jerry Rice, Emmitt Smith and Lynn Swann were all honored before kickoff at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. That’s quite the company for Hurts to be alongside. He was the only active player who was honored."

Jalen Hurts resume is one of the greatest among active QB's without doubt.  After Patrick Mahomes, he might have the best in the league But does that mean his play matches that resume? Maybe not.

First, consider his resume in the past 4 years.πŸ˜€

In  his recent 4 seasons as a starter:

Reached playoffs every year.

3x pro-bowler.

2x Super Bowl appearance.

2x MVP runner-up.

Super Bowl MVP.

Consider Joe Burrow's  recent 4 year resume for size.πŸ˜‚

Reached playoffs 1 of his 4 years.

2x pro-bowler.

That's it.

And yet people say Joe Burrow is a better QB than Jalen Hurts. 😏

Here is why.

While Jalen Hurts resume is wonderful, his play live tells a different story.

I will admit, over the 2025 and most of the 2024 regular season, there were some games when Jalen Hurts looked bad. He played enough to win, but did not look stellar. That drives fans crazy because they want a team that is exciting and dynamic. They don't want a QB who does just enough to get by. Yet it seems Jalen Hurts molded his play this way over the past season. Now there were about 5 or 6 games where Hurts looked great but for the most part, our defense held the team.

Now I personally blame Kevin Patullo😠 for the disaster of the 2025 season. But that does not excuse Hurts for some games with mediocre play.

My main problem with Jalen Hurts play over the past year is that he stepped away from his dual-threat ability.

And we all know what Hurts is capable with his run game included in his play. Just ask Steve Spagnola in 2022 and 2024 Super Bowl Games.

But Hurts taking away that threat, he becomes a meh QB. With his dual-threat ability, he becomes a top 5 QB in the league.

Lastly, I had a good friend ask me where I ranked Jalen Hurts among QB's right now.

As of right now, I place him 7th or 8th with a strong chance to climb the rankings if he has great success under Sean Mannion.

So yes, Hurts resume clearly shows his great capability to be elite. But on the flip side, his play shows his capability to be average.πŸ‘Œ

But lastly, remember, with Hurts under command, our ceiling is the super bowl. Our floor is the wild card round.
