The Failure in Reading
What if I was to tell you that there is a failure in reading books?
Today I'm discussing an opinion I have about reading.
First off, reading is needed. Reading is essential to everyone. It will make you a smarter and more wise person. It will develop your brain. It will change you for the better.
If you want to know about why reading is so needed, click here for a post I did about reading.
But if your a reader like me, we can easily fall into this trap.
What is this trap?
Reading only fiction!
Now don't get me wrong, reading fiction is ok. It is one of the best ways to sit down and relax. In fact, fiction will make you smarter, more creative, thoughtful and better off in the long run.
But the trap comes when pretty much all you read is fiction.
The reason why is at the end of the day, fiction is just for leisure time. It can be a hobby, or entertainment but if its all you read, can rob your reading time from non-fiction.
Now reading fiction is way more fun, but sometimes we need to step back and pick the better option.
Here is what I mean.
Non-fiction can mean a historical book, a biography, or a spiritual book. Books that will help you more and better set you up success. It will fill your head with valuable and important information that you can use in the real world.
For instance, I'm reading the Bible which is non-fiction. I'm also reading a book by Justin Cooper about Communism which is also non-fiction. I'm also reading a book by Gordon Korman who is a fiction author. In my life, I need all 3 outlets. Gods word, non-fiction book to help give me knowledge, and a fun fiction book for a great way to relax.
For me, I view my teen years as a time where I don't have all the big responsibilities of adulthood. So in its place, I want to strive to soak up as much knowledge and information as I can. So that is why I must be careful that my reading selection is balanced as it should be.
I like to stick to this plan for my book reading:
Thank your for reading!
