I was Scammed!!!! ( Tips of how not to)
Back in march, I was scammed.
I was looking around, trying to find a certain rabbit that had certain colors. On facebook, I found a posting on the perfect rabbit for my rabbitry. I reached out to ask about the bunny and immediately the person said it was still available. However she was in North Carolina. She said I could purchase the bunny and the shipping for 125. I loved the rabbit so I paid the lady online. The next day we went to the shipping site to fill out some details from their website and they asked for 250 dollars and they said they would return the money after the rabbit was delivered.
We were all confused so we went to customer service on that shipping site and asked them about the 250 fee. From their responses, we could tell something was off. After a TON of research looking into her page on facebook and google, we discovered some crazy stuff.
First off, the lady was a scammer. from info which we will talk about later, we could identify she was not legit. Her scamming business consisted of setting up a fake Facebook page and then taking deposits on bunnies that were not real. From there she would say she was too far away and offer to ship. This scammer had set-up a fake shipping website where she would then pretend to be the shipping services and ask for more money. The sad reality is that we were fooled and many other people are scammed too. so i wanted to share some tips of what I have learned from all this.
1. Never Give personal Info.
This one is the most obvious but never just give out those things just because someone online says to.
2. Do Background Work on their Page.
For me if I would have looked and seen from the scammers page that she didn't have any followers and no about section, I probably would not have gotten scammed in the first place. Make sure to check the persons background and that will most likely tell you whether they are legit or not.
3. Ask Questions
Ask as many as you want which can help you sort out whether you want the animal or not. It can also reveal a lot in that person by the answers they give.
4. Take your time and Pray.
Take as much time as you want to think through and ask yourself if you really want this animal. Maybe the most important tip is to pray. The Holy Spirit will give you peace on whether you should purchase the animal or not.
5. Ask for a video of the animal.
That would of immediately stopped her from scamming me because she never had a rabbit to begin with.
6. Report Anonymously
After all this, we reported her page to Facebook. Unfortunately she then went on our page and put angry faces all over our farm page. If you ever have to report a page, make sure to do it anonymously.
Hope you have enjoyed this post and that maybe you have learned a thing or too
