My Football Tips! (Offense)

Football is my favorite sport. I absolutely love watching and playing it. Today, I'm sharing some practical tips and tricks of playing football. In this post, we will be discussing the offensive side of the ball.

A) Practice throwing
This is literally the easiest thing to practice. Throw at random objects such as trees, buckets, and folding chairs. Practice the throwing motion again and again till you can consistently hit objects at various distances.

B) Wide Fingers
An interesting hack to catch the ball better is widening your fingers. It allows you to have more space to catch the ball, with the wide fingers acting as a sort of glove.

C) Imaginary yellow line
Imagine that you are the receiver before the play and you are already lined up. My mind before hearing hike is to envision an imaginary yellow line of the route I’m about to run. This trick better prepares me to run a better and controlled route.

D) Focus on acceleration, not speed
This idea might seem odd, but when practicing, practice drills that will increase your acceleration. I’m not necessarily a fast runner, but I do well in football because I try to improve in acceleration. Acceleration is the element of surprise that can instantly create separation from a defender. Quickly gaining speed in a short amount of time is invaluable to the receiver.

E) Disguise your routes
When running your route, don’t make it obvious to the defender what route your running. Try to trick the defender into thinking your running a route opposite to what your really doing.

F) Study film
Go on youtube and watch NFL receivers running routes. Study their routes, footwork, and their ability to separate from the defender.

G) Step deep before break
This trick of planting your foot way ahead before breaking can really help you in running routes. Instead of slowing down, plant your foot deep and that leverage can cause you to quickly stop so you can turn and run faster.

H) Throw the ball up
I have heard from many other guys that they wish they could catch better. One simple way is by throwing the football way up in the air and then try catching it. Do this for hundreds of times, then try throwing it slightly to the left, then right. After that, throw slightly behind yourself then slightly ahead. this principle can help you greatly and honestly is my favorite way to practice football. I have been doing this since kindergarten.

I) Fake slant deep
My favorite route to run is the fake slant deep. Basically you run for about 7 yards straight before cutting into a slant route. As soon as the defender bites onto the slant route, cut back to a deep route with sudden acceleration. This is a fun Route!

J) Fake acceleration

During a route, pace the receiver by running at 70% of your speed. Then when you need to quickly accelerate in the route, run using 100% of your speed. This will catch the defender off-guard and hopefully create separation.
