More Jalen Hurts Hate😩
Sadly for those of us that appreciate Jalen Hurts, we are seeing the attacks swell up again after a new ESPN article just a few weeks ago. Here is what you need to know.
1. Adam Schefter has a point.
I don't love anonymous sources and don't think it's really fair to have an anonymous source questioning somebody's character," Schefter said on The Pat McAfee Show. "We're taking apart a guy that's had a lot of success in this league, and I don't quite get it."
2. We should understand the situation.
The report isn't completely wrong. Like Hurts does have some weaknesses that need to be improved upon headed into the offseason.
"He has shown a reluctance to let it rip at times, particularly against zone coverage. He diverts from the game plan and changes play-calls to what some feel is an excessive degree."
"Poor body language, not always bought in, not the most coachable and the players notice," a team source said."
But couldn't you say this of every Eagles fan?
But at the same time, understand he had Kevin Patullo at OC, a complete diva for a WR1, and an entirely new offensive system. Jalen Hurts is now getting his 11th straight play-caller and that has to be hard to adapt to. The QB more than any other player would struggle to have an entirely new offensive system. And Hurts has had to do it 11 years straight and yet, he has the highest winning percentage against playoff teams, and has gone to the playoffs every year he has been a starter.
Like sure, there is some criticism we should give to Jalen Hurts. He needs to be more agressive and trust his receivers, but have we seen a QB criticized as much as Jalen Hurts? I think the new report is less about analysis and more about stirring drama.
Lastly, I love Nick Foles take on the Jalen Hurts drama. He offers a great perspective.
"Quarterbacks thrive on continuity. Timing, rhythm, terminology, and trust are all built over time within the same system. For Hurts, that foundation has been reset more often than reinforced. Different voices. Different schemes. Different expectations."
"Jalen Hurts has rarely had the luxury of building off the previous season's success in a new system, and yet, somehow, despite this, the results haven’t collapsed. Hurts has continued to win, produce, and lead. That doesn’t happen by accident. It happens because the quarterback is doing more behind the scenes than most realize. He has been asked to absorb new systems and adapt on the fly. He has still been able to deliver when it counts."
