A Big Failure With the Teenager and their Church.

1 Corinthians 12:12–14

12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
14 For the body is not one member, but many.

The church in this chapter gives illustration to the body of Christ being like parts of the human body. Over the next few verses, Paul writes that the body of Christ needs every part of the body to reach its potential.

A big problem with teenagers is that they do not have a ministry to be involved in when it comes to church. Some teens fail themselves in not being involved in the church. When this happens, the teenager becomes dysfunctional in the body of Christ. They do not help the church in any way and become nothing more than a dispensable accessory in the body of Christ. In your church, are you a vital organ to the ministries of church, or rather a needless piece of accessory?

Involvement = Commitment

How involved you are in your church is the level of commitment you have for it. This is a big reason why 80% of teenagers leave church when they graduate. They never got involved and therefore had no commitment to it. This is why some teenagers quit church.

1. Greeting Others
A big way to become involved is to greet and fellowship with everyone in church. It was Lee Roberson that said, “Fellowship is the heartbeat of the church.” Every teen should strive to meet and greet people of all ages before and after the service. Be a part of the family of God. This is a ministry we all can do.

2. Singing Service
The songs sung in church determine the spirit of every service. If there is a choir, join it. If there is a youth choir, join it. You might complain that you can’t sing. What better place to learn than in church?

3. Ask Your Pastor
Nobody knows the ministries better than your pastor. It would do the teenager some good if he asked his pastor which ministry they can be involved in.

4. Nursing Homes
You can learn a great bit from serving in the nursing home ministry. Plus, you can be a huge blessing to them.

5. Kids’ Ministries
I have the wonderful opportunity to work in the kids’ ministries. I serve in our kids’ church program. This is a great ministry for teenagers to be a part of. I have had to step outside of my comfort zone and sing, preach, and interact with 35 kids each week. I also have the responsibility of creating the kids’ church schedule every week. I highly recommend any teenager to get involved in kids’ church. From what I have said, it gives me responsibility and an opportunity to step out of my comfort zone, something every teen needs to have in their life.

6. Miscellaneous Ministries
There is a lot of ministries you can get involved in. For example:
A. Sound
B. Cleaning
C. Nursery (for the girls)

7. Volunteer

The pastor should not always ask for help. We ought to initiate and volunteer sometimes. This takes a great deal of sacrifice.
