Tips for the Teenager
What Teens Need to Do More
As a teenager, I see the triumphs and struggles of being a teen. I get the inside look of what it’s truly like being a teenager in 2026. Today, in the humblest way possible, I am going to identify some simple things teens need to do more of. None of these are specified toward spiritual stuff (although there will be a moral application).
These reminders are small things that will make you, the teenager, a wiser, happier, and better person. In no way am I assuming authority as an expert in the needs of a teenager. Rather, I have some humble thoughts I would like to share in a casual manner. So hopefully, you will enjoy this list of what teenagers need to do more.
1. Pause / Think / Reflect
Too often, teens find themselves in this terrible habit of life: everything is always go-go-go. There seems to be a rush and quickness in the tasks of life. Take time each day to be alone. From that time, pause the rush of life to meditate—to think through some things without the influence of technology. Reflect upon your day in the most refreshing way possible.
When you take time to pause and reflect, you find a wonderful state of mind. It almost becomes a recharge that helps your brain. Find time every day to pause, think, and reflect.
2. Read
This is a topic I have written much about. But don’t be the average teen who hates reading. Read as much as you can. It can help you in so many ways.
3. Write
Teenagers need, in their life, some outlet to express their thoughts. It is vital to have some small way to disperse our questions, problems, and ideas. Perhaps a journal is what you need. Maybe a blog—whatever it may be, find a way to express yourself.
4. Have a Personal Space
In my room, I have a desk with many things tailored into me. This is my personal space. It is a special place where I can safely be alone and get much work done. I would highly recommend finding a personal space where you can get things done.
5. Turn Off the Screen
In a recent poll, the average teen was found to be spending six hours on a screen a day. You, as a teen, must have the character to say no sometimes. It will be hard, but we must be responsible and limit ourselves.
6. Develop a Hobby
Find a screen-free hobby to spend your time. You need a safe and relaxing way to enjoy a hobby. Mine is woodcarving.
7. Be on the Lookout to Learn
As a teen, we must constantly be finding new things to learn. Take it upon yourself to soak yourself with as much knowledge as possible. In your everyday life, find new things to learn.
8. Practice a Sport
Don’t fall into the trap of being too lazy to exercise. Strive to be in a good physical state—not only for yourself, but for your spouse. You are carrying the temple of the Lord, so find any sport you enjoy and get into it.
9. Learn an Instrument
It is essential we learn music. Learning an instrument actually helps grow your brain. While it is hard and takes discipline, the effect is worth it.
10. Use a Schedule
It is important for every teen to get into the habit of creating a consistent schedule for everyday life. It will make you a more balanced and better-prepared adult.
11. Go Outside
We must learn to set aside time to be in God’s creation.
12. Eat Healthy
Strive now to eat a consistent and balanced diet. Your future self will thank you.
13. Listen to Speeches, Messages, and Podcasts
This will strengthen your vocabulary, make you smarter, and develop important social skills for everyday conversation.
14. Have a Morning Routine
Create a precise list of everything you need to get accomplished. It will allow your day to be more successful.
15. Love Your Life
Lastly, we must realize what a great time we are living in. Being a teenager can be one of the best times of your life. At the end of the day, we must stop worrying over the drama of relationships, emotions, and problems of life. Realize the Lord has blessed you beyond measure. So today, start loving your life.
