Football Talks (Thoughts For The Offseason)

Eagles Offseason Thoughts: Why History Favors a 2026 Super Bowl Run.😄

Here we are, in the heart of the offseason—and thankfully, Kevin Patullo is gone. His dismissal was necessary. Quite simply, he was the biggest problem the Eagles faced all year.

What’s interesting, though, is that history suggests this could actually be good news. If the pattern holds, the Eagles may be headed right back to the Super Bowl in 2026.

Look at the timeline.

In 2022, the Eagles reached the Super Bowl. That offseason, Shane Steichen left to become the head coach of the Colts, and Jonathan Gannon was hired as the Cardinals’ head coach.
In 2023, Philadelphia replaced them by hiring an offensive coordinator with no real play-calling background—and the team collapsed.
In 2024, the Eagles corrected course by hiring a veteran offensive coordinator in Kellen Moore, and the result was a Super Bowl championship.
Then came 2025, when Kevin Patullo—again, someone without legitimate play-calling expertise—was put in charge, and the offense regressed badly.

That pattern is hard to ignore. When the Eagles trust experience at offensive coordinator, they thrive. When they don’t, they struggle. History is pointing toward a bounce-back year.

As for re-signing players, two names stand above the rest: Reed Blankenship and Nakobe Dean.💪

When healthy, Nakobe Dean is a top-tier linebacker. The Eagles need him in 2026. Even when injuries happen, the depth is manageable with Campbell available. In fact, Campbell should be used more creatively anyway—as a versatile edge player rather than a full-time replacement inside.

Blankenship might be even more critical. The safety room is thin, especially with the poor play of Sydney Brown and the injury concerns surrounding Andrew Mukuba. Letting Blankenship walk would only deepen an already serious weakness.

Dallas Goedert is a tougher conversation. He played very well this year, but he’s now 31, and the draft offers plenty of replaceable options at tight end. From a roster-building standpoint, it may be time to start planning for the future at that position.

All things considered, this offseason feels familiar—and if history is any guide, that familiarity could mean something special is coming in 2026.

Thankfully, Howie Roseman has great draft capital that allows for some replacement to free up a very tight salary cap.

Something else to consider is trading AJ Brown. 😭

And honestly, I think they do. The front office cares a lot about the mentality of the locker room. Consider last year when we traded CJ Gardner Johnson for basically nothing. The move was because

CJ was causing a lot of drama in the team. I think a similar idea is followed. However, if we do trade him, we need to get at least a first round draft pick and a good CB2. I also think Howie needs to trade up in the first round to get a legit WR2. I also think you resign Dotson for some stability too. Me personally I would get Zachariah Branch.

Jalen Hurts will also be going into an 11th straight season of different OC's. 😬

This could be the reason of why he is very conservative and doesn't trust what he sees downfield. It think it takes him time to learn and build confidence in the right system. Consider 2024, the super bowl winning campaign. Not only did he have a 2,000 yard rusher to split his time, but you will notice he didn't start playing elite until the playoffs. Maybe it could be that it took him a while to learn a brand new offensive system. But once he did, boy was he good.

Below are seven quick reasons to be crazy optimistic for the offseason.😏

1. We still have an incredible roster.

2. Kevin Patullo is not our OC.

3. We have great draft capital thanks to Howie,

4. History favors the Eagles headed into 2026.

5. Vic Fangio is coming back in 2026. But the good part is that in his 2 years of being the DC, he has both led top-5 defensive units.

6. We arguably have the best DB pair in the NFL with Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper Dejean.

7. We have made the playoffs 5 years in a row under Jalen Hurts.
