Coffee or Tea?

An estimated 2.25 billion cups of coffee are consumed every day. In a year, over 821 billion cups of coffee is drank. Now while that seems a lot, think about this. Every day, nearly 3.75 billion cups of tea are consumed, meaning every year, over 1.3 trillion cups are drank.

Putting Coffee and Tea together, 2.1 trillion cups are consumed every year.

Today, I'm talking about which is truly the healthier option and contrasting the 2 drinks in many ways.

Tea is better for your mind.

Tea has been around for thousands of years and is the second most consumed drink in the world after water. Tea ha a wide range of benefits. But its specialty is its benefits for the brain. According to studies, tea helps with the following:
  • Tea improves focus and attention by combining caffeine with L-theanine, which increases calm alertness without jitters.

  • Regular tea drinkers show slower cognitive decline as they age compared to non-tea drinkers.

  • Tea consumption is associated with a lower risk of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia in long-term population studies.

  • L-theanine increases alpha brain waves, linked to relaxed concentration, creativity, and mental clarity.

  • Tea antioxidants help protect brain cells from oxidative stress, a major factor in memory loss and neurodegenerative disease.

  • Tea drinkers often perform better on memory, reaction time, and information-processing tests.

  • Habitual tea consumption has been linked to better brain connectivity in regions responsible for memory and executive function.

  • Unlike high-caffeine drinks, tea provides mental energy without crashes or overstimulation.

When you talk about tea, there are many different kinds with the 2 most popular being Herbal and Black. Black tea contains 40-70 mg of caffeine. Black Tea has shown to be mildly addictive when consumed daily. It has more flavor and a stronger taste than other teas and is the most popular for its flavor not necessarily the side effects or benefits. Black tea is drank for enjoyment from the taste considering its popular additive of sugar. Black tea accounts for about 78% of all tea consumed worldwide,

Herbal tea on the other hand contains no caffeine making it non-addictive. Herbal tea can be recognized for its wide range of health benefits since it is steeped from many herbs, fruits and other plants. One Herbal Tea may help with your gut health and digestion while another is steeped from a different plant and helps with building immunity. Its non-addictive ability and wide range of benefits make it the most healthy kind of tea.

Coffee: The powerbooster for your body.

Coffee has been around for hundreds of years and is most popular in America. Coffee unlike the steeping of tea is brewed. A good amount of consumption is healthy. Coffee has been linked to your body being more alert and active in the morning. It can help with your heart and your liver as well as lower cancer.

Coffee can be addictive considering the average cup has 80-100 mg of caffeine. Double the amount of black tea which has around 50. Caffeine is a chemical that blocks off other brain chemicals that send messages to your brain that your body is tired. Coffee can create dependency which leads to many side affects including:
A. Slower cognitive ability.
B. Headaches.
C. Drowsiness.
D. Irregular heart rate.

Coffee is widely popular for brining physical alertness to the drinker. It is also loved because of its taste which some have like through aquired taste.

Coffee can be very healthy to have in the morning to kickstart your day but if heavily consumed, will lead to dependency and a higher rate of diabetes and heart diseases.

Ultimately the healthier choice is not coffee.
Nor is it black tea which is most likely to be in your cabinet.
The most healthy is actually Herbal Tea.

So in review, Tea in general is overall more healthy but Coffee is a better choice if your looking for a beverage that will help kickstart your day.
