Keeping Christ in Christmas.
Sometimes, it’s easy for us to lose focus on what really matters, and that being Christ and His wonderful birth in Bethlehem.
Now you’re probably thinking, I have heard this a million times before. We hear it in preaching on Sundays, from others, even signs from Hobby Lobby saying Jesus is the reason for the season.
But today, I want to practically give some ways to put Jesus back in Christmas, while at the same time balancing it with some of the fun traditions each family has.
1. Balance Christmas music.
Sometimes it is easy for us to be influenced by the secular Christmas music we choose to listen to. You will be affected by what you listen to. Make sure to keep your music in balance.
2. On Christmas Eve, do these things.
Every Christmas Eve, our family reads Luke 2 and then talks about Jesus. It is a special time we get to spend talking about how wonderful God is.
3. Read Luke 2 regularly.
Reading the Gospel story will get your mind back on Jesus.
4. Beware of the influence of Santa and the secular attempts to block God out of Christmas.
The world has always tried to make Christmas about everything but Jesus. They will make it about Santa, elves, presents, and stuff. Always be careful to remember the real reason for the season.
5. Buy a family devotional Christmas book to read and discuss together.
We have been doing a devotional before school and it has been really good for me to start out that way.
6. Make a Jesus stocking.
Every year, we make a stocking that is for Jesus. Then on Christmas Eve, we write down on pieces of paper things we’re going to give to God and then put them in His stocking.
7. Make conscious efforts to thank God for what the Christmas season really means.
Doing this will put in your mind just how much God truly loves us.
