What Never has a Finish Line?
2 Timothy 4:7
There’s a kind of stationary bike at the gym. You sit on it, pedal hard, and sweat like crazy — but you never move an inch. No matter how fast you go, there’s no finish line No cheering destination.
But not all bikes are like that. Some go somewhere — up mountains, through cities, across miles. There’s a destination. There’s a goal.
The same is in our Christian Life.
There are some things that no matter how hard you try, you never move. You sweat and keep doing it but you never get anywhere.
There are also some things in our Christian life that do lead to a success and do have a destination.
Today I will be talking about what never has a finish line
1. Pleasure never has a finish line
Ecclesiastes 2:10–11
“And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy... then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought... and, behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun.”
We see here Solomon talking about some failures in his life. He tried so hard to do everything to please himself but yet there was no true joy or satisfaction.
In the same way, pleasure never has a finish line.
When we please ourself , we just want to keep pleasing ourself.
Your flesh will ALWAYS desire more and more.
You will always finding yourself chasing more..
More fun, more cars and more TV's. It never stops.
Our flesh never says, That's enough.
As a Christian we must be careful to crucify our flesh like Paul because if we don't our life will be unproductive.
2. Money never has a finish line
Ecclesiastes 5:10
“He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.”
Have you ever noticed that millionares are never satisfied. They are constantly obsessed with getting the next million and the million after that.
Money is a wonderful servant but a terrible master.
Don't let the pursuit of money control you.
3. Bitterness never has a finish line.
Hebrews 12:15
“Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled.”
Bitterness is like a weed. It springs up and spreads wide its ugly roots. It can ruin beautiful gardens .
When someone does you wrong we have 2 options.
Forgive or plant a seed of bitterness.
When we choose bitterness, it never ends. It will constantly control you and you will find soon after that the beautiful garden of you heart is ruined by the weed of bitterness.
When we choose to harbor bitterness, it never helps us only ruins us.
Ephesians 4:31-32
“Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.”
